1. Self-Knowledge

Since success is fleeting, you can never count on keeping it once you have it. Success is a long march, and you need the tools to endure.

9. Purpose

Having a calling is not reserved just for very special people. We all have a vocation, which transcends the material factors of job, income and lifestyle.

You have to know yourself and follow your heart. Titles, prestige and money are fine, but if you don’t love what you do, it’s all meaningless.

Why do websites fail? One of the main reasons why many online businesses fail is due to the lack of TRAFFIC!  Traffic is the life blood of the internet, if your site does not generate enough high quality traffic you eventually will be out of business. Here are a few methods on how to get more traffic to your website.

Social Networking

The first method is social networking. There are many different social networking sites, some of my favorites are Mybloglog.com, twitter.com, myspace.com, linkedin.com and facebook.com.  I get most of my free organic traffic to my blog from these social networking sites. Join these sites and add your site url to your profile and begin generating more traffic.

Google Page Ranking

How do you get your website ranked higher on Google? This method is a bit harder to achieve, but not impossible. It requires building back links (urls) to your website from ”authoritative” websites.  It also means optimizing your website to key search word terms. This is called search engine optimization or SEO. Another way is to get your website listed on other authoritative websites by exchanging links.  For example, I’ve been able to list my website on www.selfimprovement.com by submitting my link and writing articles that contain my website link.  When authoritative websites list your site url your site will begin to rank much higher than those that aren’t back-linked. 

The power of “page ranking” gives your site a higher level of content importance as perceived by Google. Remember-Google finds you when you are linked by another authority site. It’s simple logic. When an authority site contains your site url, it’s like having a business connection (the more connections you have the more likely you’ll receive referals).  Another tool I found helpful to use is Google Annihilation.

Advertising

A third method would be to advertise at high volume traffic websites like Google, Yahoo and MSN.  Google is the best choice–since it has the highest traffic volume and potential buyers.  It’s a bit expensive to advertise on Google through their Adwords program and requires a thorough understanding of keyword optimization and ad writing. Sometimes this is called pay per click (PPC) or content advertising. You might consider hiring an expert to set this marketing method up for you.

Free Advertising

While searching the internet,I stumbled across a simple source of free advertising. The free advertising website is called Hits2u. On the Hits2u site, you can submit your web url for free and be exposed to potentially tens of thousands of new and unique visitors! Your advertisement will be randomly displayed on promotional banners placed on Hits2u members’ high traffic websites. The list of website owners who place Hits2u banner ads on their site is growing at a exponential rate!

In creating a short-term goal, it is important to distinguish between what you “wish” for and what you ultimately want. Often a person’s goal can be “to make lots of money,” “live where it’s warm,” “find Mr. or Ms. Right,” etc., but these are merely broad generalizations and therefore, it’s difficult to create concrete markers to let you know if you’re heading in the right direction.

Instead, use these broad subject areas to delve into what exactly motivates you about them. Instead of wanting to make lots of money, this “wish” could be re-phrased to “making $50,000 this year and saving $2,000 for retirement.” There are also many more factors involved in “living where it’s warm” that you need to address. What part of the country interests you, what is the cost of living, what demographics are you seeking? By breaking down a statement of what you wish your life could be like, you are much more likely to get there. In order to reach your goals, you will have to get around any barriers you may face. List those barriers and your solutions for dealing with them.  Below are two exercises to help you structure your short-term goal-setting process.

Exercise: In creating your goal, ask yourself the following questions:

1. What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?

2. What would your “perfect life’ look like and your “worst life” look like?

3. How important is the goal to you? Why is it important?

4. What obstacles might I face?

Exercise: On a sheet of paper, write “Short-term Goals I Want to Accomplish.” Start with the goal that most interests you, then create a column for each of these areas:

1. Things I can do right now to achieve them

2. Things I can do next month

3. Things I can do six months from now

4. Things that might prevent me from achieving my goal

5. Thoughts I’m telling myself about my abilities to complete this goal

For each statement, make a list of concrete actions you can do, then set a deadline for their completion. After you complete each action, put a big checkmark next to it. Seeing something written down can often be much more motivating then simply thinking about it.

Following this framework, you can begin working on transforming any negativity or frustration you may be suffering in your life to positive energy and a strong focus. Find a coach to help you define your goals. Try taking the coachability assessment to see if coaching is right for you.
