What Does A Life Coach Do ? : Generally speaking a life coach helps people empower themselves by learning to recognize key things about one’s feelings and thinking. There are a lot of discontented people in America and they would to get their lives revamped. The problem with this profession is that it is yet to be regulated and a formal set of education has not been established. A life coach in unlike therapists because they do not rescue the deeply depressed they only wish to guide people whose lives are only slightly askew. In short life coaches are someone you work with in order to set your goals straight and for you to follow those goals. Life coaches do not delve on the past history of client’s life. Instead they tackle today and the future.

Who Gets Coached? : For those macho men who hate getting into the emotional stuff life coaching is extremely popular. What’s more, because life coaching takes on a sports persona kids and families in general respond better to the programs. The Downside of the Matter: The problem with life coaching is that it is an unregulated profession. Although a lot of life coaches have trainings and education regarding this field, still a number remains undisciplined in this arena. Most of the guiding practices are unproven and no extensive studies have been done.

The need for a cheerleader, a planner, a sort of life secretary if you will is a good premise, but what people really need is more than that. What if the life coach fails to see the signals that a certain person is not only in need of a pick me up but is actually in serious trouble? Experts are getting wary, they want mental professional to enter the field of life coaching because they are better able to analyze a person’s psyche and actually deliver the appropriate needs.

In the past, life coaching was used as a business motivational tool. Human resources see that high powered executives do get restless and might want to evaluate their lives. Life coaches are used to help those worried individuals see reality and appreciate what they have while going after what they are passionate for.

In Closing : Unlike popular belief, life coaching is not a quick fix. The session can take months and months of activities in order to really see ones self clearly in connection to reality. Five Daily Self Improvement Practices to Change Your Life

As a student of personal development and self improvement, you’ve no doubt come to the understanding that everything you achieve in life is fundamentally determined by your thinking. Thoughts are real things, which lead to a feeling, which lead to an action, which lead to an outcome. This is the basis by which you create your life.

So it stands to reason that no matter what you wish to create in your life, applying a consistent daily practice — a routine — that will promote good thinking habits can only serve you in creating more of what you want in life… and help to make you much more proficient at the same time.

In my experience, I’ve come to see the power of applying five very basic practices into my daily routine that have become strong habits and that have served to strengthen my ability to deliberately apply Law of Attraction in my life.

No doubt you’ve heard of all of these, but have you made them a daily habit for yourself in order to benefit from their combined power? Perhaps not.

If one or more of these elements is missing from your routine, you may find yourself struggling in one or more areas of your life.

* Self Improvement Habit #1: Regular self improvement time every day.

As John Henry Newman said, “Growth is the only evidence of life.” So contribute to your growth as a leader in your own life by spending focused time on your personal growth and development every day.

Or don’t, in which case you are really choosing to stop living.

Spend even just 20 minutes writing out your goals and affirmations. Listen to a CD. Read an inspiring book. Learn from the masters. Feed yourself every day with positive thoughts and messages.

Begin to integrate these things into your day and develop the habit of doing so daily. By doing so, you are feeding your mind in a positive way.

* Self Improvement Habit #2: Quiet your mind and then visualize your success every day.

Professional athletes and top business leaders know the power of visualization. Self help teachers through history have extolled the virtues of learning to quiet your mind with meditation.

At least once a day, take the time to quiet your mind and connect with whom you intend to be — the CEO of you, the leader of you, the inspiring leader of your own life who has massive results and success at whatever you choose.

Use a brief meditation to quiet the rampant mind chatter… take a couple of deep breaths, close your eyes, and focus on your breathing for even for just a couple of minutes. That’s all it needs to take.

Then visualize in your mind that you are achieving your goals. The goals needn’t be major; just ensure they reflect something you really want. Is it a new car? Great… visualize yourself looking at new cars. See and enter the dealership in your mind. Sit in the car in the showroom. Visualize yourself taking the car for a test drive. Where are you driving? How does it handle? How does the new car smell? Now visualize completing your offer sheet and choosing all the options you want. Picture yourself picking up the keys and taking delivery of your car.

Professional sprinters will visualize their entire race from entering the starting blocks, right through to the finish line. There’s incredible power in doing that.

You, too, will experience tremendous results just from taking five minutes each day to visualize yourself achieving what you want in specific detail. So find a time when you can be alone for five minutes and do it.

* Self Improvement Habit #3: Schedule one hour of core time.

Set aside one hour, which you’ve explicitly scheduled in your day, which is your uninterrupted time spent only on activities that will move you closer to your goals.

What are those activities? The more time you spend visualizing, the clearer the path to follow to get there will become. You will find yourself inspired to take actions — your inner voice will begin to guide you.

Perhaps it’s taking a course, or undertaking a project, or starting a home business… whatever the appropriate steps happen to be, they will become clear to you.

Just be sure to set aside the time to actually do them. If you can’t find the time, then get up an hour earlier or go to bed an hour later. No matter what, find the hour. And protect that hour jealously.

It is in this time that you ultimately make your dreams come true. It is this time that you are taking the action that needs to be taken.

* Self Improvement Habit #4: Lead yourself in everything you do.

Set the expectation of leadership in everything you do. What does this mean?

Simply, it means holding yourself accountable for actually doing what you say you intend to do. What’s the one action you can take today that helps to move your forward in the direction of your goals? You already know what it is because you’ve done the visualization. So the next thing for you to do is to actually do it.

Don’t wait for someone else to do it for you. Action is what makes it all come together. Consistently taking the action you’ve identified (which you can do in your scheduled core time) puts you in integrity with yourself and sends a clear signal to the Universe that you’re ready to begin receiving what you want.

* Self Improvement Habit #5: Mastermind with other people.

Spend time with others who are successful in what they do and are effective leaders. These may be people you already know, such as business associates, friends, or co-workers. Or you may need to start to make new friends and build new networks in your community.

Other leaders are easy to spot. They are successful. Build relationships with them. Exchange ideas. You learn the most from people who are already accomplishing that to which you aspire.

Make a point of hanging around with people who will help you get better. Spend at least 30 minutes masterminding every day. It may take the form of a phone conversation. Or a lunch. Or exchanging emails. Or listening to a presentation. Or joining a club or association.

It doesn’t matter so long as you make a habit of doing some kind of masterminding every day.

Consistently applying these five daily personal development habits will ensure you maintain a healthy mindset and high energy. They will make you more effective in all aspects of your life.

Small business coaching is hot. A few years ago the only coaches anyone talked about were sports coaches. But today, PriceWaterhouseCoopers estimates that there are 30,000 business and life coaches worldwide.

Thousands of small business owners and managers turn to coaches every day to improve their personal skills and business results. You can, too. But first you have to determine if you’re ready for coaching. Then you have to select the right coach.

That’s a typical situation. Most small businesses owners don’t start out using a coach. They usually come to coaching when they’ve had some success and when they know they could have more. The best coaching in the world won’t help you if you’re not ready to be helped. So before you go hunting for a good small business coach, answer the following questions.

Are you ready to listen to the things you need to hear? A good coach will ask you about things you haven’t thought of and push you to think outside the box. That’s often scary.

A good coach may also tell you to change the way you do some things. That’s hard for many small business owners because it means admitting that you’ve made some bad decisions and choices.

Are you ready to take a hard look at your business? Even the best coach can’t help you if your business can’t deliver quality to enough people at the right price. Sometimes a business simply can’t succeed because the market is too small or too hard to reach.

Choosing the Coach for You

Look for a coach who’s run a small business. Before I started coaching I built two successful small businesses. I’ve really “been there and done that” so I know what my clients are going through.

I also use coaches myself. The ones that work best for me have small business experience. Small businesses are different from big businesses and you need a coach who understands the special challenges.

Look for a coach who’s been doing it for a while. My job as a coach is to help you know what to do, but it’s also to help you do what you know. It takes time to learn to coach well.

Look for a coach who won’t nickel and dime you to death. It seems to me that there are two kinds of coaches when it comes to billing. There are coaches who charge you by the minute, hour or session. And there are coaches who are always accessible or available for short conversations between sessions, if needed without piling on extra charges. I find the latter works better for my clients.

Look for a coach that you’re comfortable with. Successful outcomes demand a productive relationship between you and your coach. It won’t work if you feel talked down to or belittled or if you feel like your coach doesn’t care about you. If you feel any of those things, look for a different coach.

Look for a coach who’s picky. The best coaches are selective about the kind of clients they work with. We expect a lot of our clients and we limit the number of clients we work with so we can concentrate on helping each one succeed.

Six Needs of Every Successful Relationship

Although most of us desire a healthy relationship, it’s surprising how many of us don’t really understand what makes love survive long term. Most of us are bombarded with images of love and sex in magazines, TV adverts, and on the radio, but often they idealize, romanticize, or trivialize love. So it’s hard to work out what the keys to lasting passion and love are.

So much is written about it, yet it is an emotion that gets the least attention within families and schools. We’re not taught about it — we just seem to either catch it, pick it up as we go along, or copy our own mom and dad’s relationship!

Yet there is perhaps no greater source of happiness, joy, and fulfillment or heartache, despair, or pain than love.

Keeping the glow with your partner is not easy, and no matter where you are in your relationship, it’s important to regularly check in on it from time to time to keep it fresh, keep it growing, and keep it watered and nurtured.

With just a slight shift in your perceptions and beliefs about marriage and partnerships, you can re-kindle the flame of love, re-ignite intimacy, and fan the flames of passion if you are open and willing to give it a go.

Interestingly, we say we love the people in our lives, yet we often don’t act very lovingly with our words, our tone of voice or our body language, or our attitude toward the very people who are the most important to us. And it’s ironic that no amount of money, success, status, or fame will ever come close to the warm glow of a loving and nurturing relationship.

The Driving Force of All Human Needs

All of us are driven by the same basic human needs in some form or other, and working out what your own needs are first is a great place to start if you want a truly fulfilling and meaningful relationship.

There are six levels of basic needs in life, and each level supports the next one like the layers in a pyramid. If one need is not being met, it is very difficult to have a truly fulfilling relationship.

There are four primary needs (certainty, variety, significance, and love) and two spiritual needs (growth and contribution), but the key element in a happy and successful relationship is in getting our needs met in the way we value them the most.

The problem, or the challenge, in a relationship is that we all differ in the order of priority we put these needs in and in how we value each of them in our lives.

So if you value security and certainty first in your list of needs, you can see how you’d find it challenging to be in a relationship with a person who loves uncertainty or lots of variety in their life.

The secret is to understand where you truly are, where you feel most comfortable, and then to think about how that influences your life and relationship so you can learn how to expand the choices that are available to you.

If you don’t fulfill your needs, then you feel off kilter, out of balance, and unhappy.

When you know what you genuinely need, you can work out how to go about getting your needs met yourself and by also talking them through with your partner so you can fulfill their needs as well.

The secret is know what your needs are and in what order of importance, and then to take a little time to explain what they are to your partner — and watch your relationship flourish.

Grab a pen and paper to jot down your thoughts as you ponder over the next week or so.


Need One: The Need for Certainty

People who need certainty like consistency, control, safety, security, and routines, and to avoid uncertainty they often resort to controlling behavior to try and feel safe and in control of most situations.

* Think about all the ways you currently get certainty in your life at the moment.
* Are these needs being fully met?
* How could you get them met?

Need Two: The Need for Variety/Uncertainty

People who need uncertainty like surprises, diversity, difference, excitement, and challenges and find too many routines dull, lifeless, and boring. They may even “pick a fight” to get some reaction that’s unpredictable and stimulating as they love taking on new challenges.

* Think about all the ways you currently get uncertainty/variety in your life at the moment.
* Are these needs being fully met?
* How could you get them met?

Need Three: The Need for Significance

People who need significance have a sense of being needed and of feeling important and unique and noticed. They need to have a sense of purpose and meaning in their lives.

This can lead to them accumulating material possessions, academic success, or even a keenness to keep developing their skills and knowledge. They like to have their accomplishments noticed and recognized and may get their need for significance through their children. It’s not about showing off, but it is about feeling recognized for their value and accomplishments.

* Think about all the ways you currently get significance in your life.
* Are these needs being fully met?
* How could you get them met?

Need Four: The Need for Connection and Love

People who need to feel love and connection enjoy sharing and intimacy, and a sense of feeling part of…. They enjoy bonding spiritually, as well as physically, and like to feel at one with another person. They enjoy the sense of meaning love and connection can give them. If this need isn’t met, they can often take refuge in negative destructive behavior like drinking too much, smoking or getting into gangs if they are young, or find themselves self-sacrificing their own needs to get a sense of connection with another.

* Think about all the ways you currently get connection and love in your life at the moment.
* Are these needs being fully met?
* How could you get them met?

Need Five: The Need for Growth

People who need growth enjoy expanding their knowledge, comfort zones, and friendships. They enjoy self-development and learning about themselves and what they are capable of, and they enjoy their relationship moving forward, expanding, and growing — not stagnating and staying still.

Relationships can either see one partner growing, changing, and going off in a different direction, or see one partner growing, changing, and growing at a different speed. The secret is to recognize what’s happening and to talk about it and to work out ways you can grow, change, and keep together.

* Think about all the ways you currently get the need for growth in your life at the moment.
* Are these needs being fully met?
* How could you get them met?

Need Six: The Need for Contribution

People who need contribution in their lives feel the need to give back and to share their expertise, knowledge, time, or money to help their community, their business, their family, their school, a charity, or the world as a whole. They have a need to feel unity with others and to make a difference in the world in some small or large way.

* Think about all the ways you currently get the need to contribute in your life at the moment.
* Are these needs being fully met?
* How could you get them met?

Getting more of what you need:

* At the moment, which of the Six Needs are you really looking for?
* Which ones are the most important in your life?
* How can you begin to identify better, maybe even healthier, ways to get them met?

If you’re ever going to be happy in your relationship, it’s important to ensure that your emotional needs are being fully met. Your partner doesn’t need to meet 100% of your needs, but they will almost certainly need to support all of the important ones for you to be truly happy in your relationship.

Getting your needs met is essential if you ever intend to find your love for life, but don’t expect your partner to be able or willing to fulfill every one of your needs. No one person can do that.

Different friends, family, and work colleagues and having different hobbies and interests with different people can all contribute to fulfilling your needs. So open up to all the possibilities that life can offer you and don’t place too many demands on any one person.

Take responsibility for fulfilling your own needs.

Everything you want and need is waiting for you, so just start recognizing what you need, ask for it to be met, and embrace life and love with both arms wide open.

Expanding Your Business By Moving Beyond Your Comfort Zones

How many of us at sometime or another have procrastinated about what we should or shouldn’t be doing with our business. You are not alone and many business owners face this dilemma because running your own business can be a daunting time and costly if you make less favourable decisions.

One of the many reasons why we procrastinate in life is due to our fear, or should I say our perceived fear of potential outcomes and is one of the reasons we prefer to stay within our comfort zones, where we feel safe. This is no different when running a business.

We all operate according to our unique perception of reality from a position of comfort and it is a natural survival instinct for us to do things that are within our own individual ‘Comfort Zones.’  However, one thing that sets achievers apart from others is that they understand the importance of safely stepping outside of our comfort zones and stretching ourselves more than usual.

It is only when we step outside of our comfort zones and in to an area of ‘stretch’ that new learning’s become obtainable to us, it is these new learning’s that provide the essential feedback necessary for us to grow and develop. It allows us to engage in a ‘trial and error’ process.

However, it is also important to understand that we all have different comfort zones and the thresholds for what is comfort, stretch or panic vary from one person to the next. For example, if you had a goal to become an excellent and skilled trapeze artist and looked to a world famous performer to model yourself on, is it sensible to stretch yourself to the same extent as them? Swinging around above a safety net at 100 feet may present no problems for someone who is experienced and yet for others it will be too much of a stretch.

We each have our own comfort zones and a goal that may not be a challenge for some, may be too much of a challenge for others. Therefore, whilst modelling our behaviour on others is a great way to learn how we can potentially achieve the same results, it can also result in us over stretching ourselves and lead to experiencing a sense of panic, which could result in a ‘conditioned response’ of avoidance.

Therefore, when modelling ourselves on others it is crucially  important to recognise that we all learn at different paces and levels and therefore to be mindful of not over stretching ourselves. Having realistic goals enables us to stretch safely without stretching too far out side of our comfort zone where we may have the uneccessary experience of panic.

The ‘challenge barometer’ is a model that illustrates where our individual comfort zones sit in relation to new experiences and can be looked at as three concentric circles. The very inner circle is our comforts zone, it is small and does not offer a great deal of scope for development. Outside of this is another circle, which is regarded as an area we can safely stretch in to and develop. Finally, beyond this and one the very outer edge is a third cicle, which is regarded as the area of panic. We enter this when we have stretched ourselves too far.

This model, advocates that it is healthy for our belief system and potential to grow when we stretch ourselves by 10% at every occasion. By doing something that takes us outside of our comfort zone and without taking us in to panic, we are able to safely experience new learning’s, which will always generate feedback. For example, think of a goal you might have, which at present you believe is beyond your actual capabilities and then ask yourself what could I do now that would take me 10% towards succeeding in that goal. It may be that your goal is to be confident at public speaking to an audience of 50 strangers. What would 10% of this be? Perhaps it might start off with presenting something to 5 people you know well, and then 10 friends. Having developed your confidence at this level, then 10% stretch may now be to present a speech to 5 strangers and then 10, 15 and eventually building up over a period of time to an audience of 50 people.

Therefore, the process of stretching and challenging ourselves to step outside of our comfort zones can be an effective approach of supporting us to develop and achieve our goals, whilst also being able to experience new learning’s that provide valuable feedback. However, we have to be cautious of the meanings we attach to the feedback we gain and to ensure that we only ever see it as feedback and not as failure. People who achieve excellence rarely see unexpected outcomes experienced during moments of stretching as failure and value them as feedback, which they use to inform their decisions and future behaviour.
